Eric Evans
Multi-Instrumentalist • Arranger • Engineer • Producer | Pop / Smooth Jazz / Contemporary Jazz Fusion
The Eric Evans Project is a collaboration of talented musicians that produce original pop/smooth jazz and contemporary jazz fusion music. At its center is Eric Evans, a versatile multi-instrumentalist, arranger, engineer, and producer. Eric plays flute, alto flute, EWI (electronic wind instrument), and keyboards. In addition to performing, he writes the arrangements and handles mixing, engineering, and production on his recordings.
Eric’s musical journey began at home. His father was a clarinet player, his mother played sousaphone/tuba, and his grandfather—a band director—gave him his very first flute lesson. Growing up surrounded by his parents’ extensive jazz collection, he fell in love with the flute through artists like Herbie Mann, Paul Horn, Bud Shank, and Yusef Lateef. He was equally inspired by the rock-fusion movement of the early 1970s, including Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Thijs van Leer (Focus), and Tim Weisberg. These diverse influences—from classical and jazz to rock and new age—continue to define the passion and variety in his music.
A seasoned live performer, Eric has been featured at concert venues and jazz festivals across the country and has served as music director for numerous churches. His discography includes three albums, most notably Waves of Grace with singer/songwriter David Eugene Ivey.
Eric’s creative process is organic and collaborative. Songs often begin with a band jam, a melody inspired by nature, or a meaningful phrase. He and longtime collaborator David Eugene Ivey frequently develop “song sketches” together before Eric refines the arrangements, engineering, and production until the track is ready for release. Favorites like “Shoreline Highway,” “Waves of Grace,” and “Seaside” showcase his signature style: strong melodies, irresistible grooves, and driving beats.
When he writes and performs, Eric draws inspiration from his faith, his beautiful wife Jennifer, and the talented artists he collaborates with. Music, for him, is a universal language that impacts people’s hearts. He continues to dream, set goals, practice daily, and complete the many new songs in his pipeline—always placing family and values first.
